The U.S. Department of States in partnership with California State University, Chico, organized a retreat for all SUSI Alumni from 2016, 2017 and 2018 in the Ghanaian capital city, Accra from 5th-8th August 2018. The Executive Director of Bridge Connect Africa Initiative was among the Alumni from 2016 who attended the event. Alumni were given the opportunity to pitch their ideas for a $5,000 initial funding for the winner. The alumni comprised students from 5 different countries in Africa – Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon and Mali – with wonderful ideas on how to make our world a much better place.
After the pitch, alumni went on a tour to the slave museum at Elmina Castle, had a time at the beach and rounded off the program with a dinner. Major highlights of the event were the presence of Mirabelle Morah who is a Board of Trustee Member for Bridge Connect Africa Initiative and Founder/Editor-In-Chief, Blankpaperz. Other interesting moments were catching up with the President of the Junior Chambers International, Mali, Mr. Aliou Diaou and Mariam Modibbo Tandina whom our Exec. Director partnered with on a “Vivon Le” project while in California.
Part of BCAI delegation were also alumni from Nigeria – Hussaina Aminu Aboki, Khadija Muhammad Audi, Mana Phar and Haruna Usman who all pitched their ideas and opted to volunteer for the organization.
