YCIA: Sensitization
Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI) on 26 March 2021 took to the streets of 4 Local Government Areas in Kano State to sensitize and educate communities on COVID-19.
The awareness campaign was aimed at sensitising rural communities within Kano state on the effect of the coronavirus, and educating them on the preventive and protective measures in accordance with the WHO provisions.
The awareness campaign which targeted 400 people across 4 LGAs – Dawakin Kudu, Kumbotso, Nasarawa and Ungogo – was part of the Youth Community Immunity Ambassador (YCIA) Project commissioned by UNFPA in partnership with the Centre for Girls Education and implemented in Kano by BCAI. The 20 YCIA Ambassadors in the various communities also incorporated gender-based violence awareness raising in their messages, educating community leaders, parents and children on child protection and ways to create inclusive, gender-friendly environments where there is a good response and preventive mechanism for all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.
