Reflections on child marriage: Expectations before marriage and the reality after marriage
Child marriage is a harmful traditional practice that denies girls their right to make important decisions about their sexual health and well-being. It affects and violates the rights of women and girls, which include the right to education.
The health implications are vast, ranging from early pregnancies, which often result in Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) or Rector Vaginal Obstetric Fistula. There is also a higher risk of contracting many sexually transmitted diseases.
