On 2nd March 2021, the Executive Director of Bridge Connect Africa Initiative the “Galvanizing Mass Action Against Gender-Based Violence in Kano” (GMAAK) delegation on an advocacy visit to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.
He pledged his full support for the speedy passage of the Child Protection Bill which has scaled through second reading in the House; and his commitment to pass the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act once its gets to the House.
If these two legislations are passed it would help provide functional systems and provisions that covers a range of gender based violence issues – including rape, domestic abuse, child marriage and FGM/C, and compliment the important strides of the Kano State Government in promoting free and compulsory education in he state.
In his concluding remark, he called on all concerned stakeholders working on sexual and gender-based violence and child’s rights to not relent in their effort towards the domestication of the Child Protection Bill and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act.
